Working with product attributes
So what if your product offers attributes like colors, document types, add ons etc?
Well Zencart takes care of it, and makes it fairly simple (there is a slight learning curve) to add attributes to products and to edit them. Lets start off with editing an existing attribute.
Example: Lets say that your are selling marine lights (only because that is what I am taking the screenshots from), and you want to provide your customer with a choice to add another light to their order at 1/2 price. First you will want to navigate to your attribute controller as illustrated in the screenshot below:
Once you are in your attributes page, you will want to choose your category, for this example the category is Surface Mount Lighting. Once you select your category, the product list below it will update to display the products for that category. So go ahead and choose product (again for this example I will be using the 12 light surface mount lights with an ID#5).
Now you will see from the image above, that the attributes are all ready set up, and you can see that there are 3 values in this example. The first with a price of $0 which is your default value, and two lights below that which are priced at 1/2 off. To edit the price, simply click on the edit button of the attribute, and you will be presented the edit attribute window (look below).
The information in the image above, is really all you ever really need to worry about. Don’t bother with the price factor, or the price offset. 90% of the time, there is no use for it. So all you need to worry about editing is the price, the weight and the order number (which tells the cart in what order to display the attributes in the showroom.
Once you have made your changes, click save and you are done.
